Who we are

This website is published by Centurion Financial Strategies, LLC (“Centurion,” Central Registration Depository, or CRD, number 316454), a Minnesota limited liability company and investment adviser registered with the states of Minnesota, Washington, California and Texas. Registration as an investment adviser does not imply a certain level of skill or training. Centurion may only transact business in states where it is registered, or is excluded or exempted from registration. Individualized responses to persons that involve either the effecting of transactions in securities or the rendering of personalized investment advice for compensation will not be made without registration or exemption. This website is not an offer of advisory services in any jurisdiction where such an offer would be unlawful.

David E. Denniston, CFA® (CRD #4697676) is Centurion’s founding principal, Chief Compliance Officer and an investment adviser representative. Neither Centurion nor its associated persons is affiliated with any broker-dealer, and no associated person receives commissions for the sale of securities.

Form ADV and background information

Our Form ADV Part 2A (firm brochure) and Part 2B (brochure supplements) describe our services, fees, conflicts of interest, and the education, business background and outside activities of our advisory personnel. You will receive them before you sign an advisory agreement. They are also available free of charge on the SEC’s Investment Adviser Public Disclosure website or by calling 612-284-2409. You can review Dave Denniston’s background on Investment Adviser Public Disclosure and FINRA BrokerCheck. If anything on this website differs from our Form ADV, the Form ADV controls.

General information only

The content on this website is for general information and education. It is not intended as investment, tax or legal advice, and it is not a solicitation or recommendation to buy or sell any security or to adopt any investment strategy. Information is developed from sources believed to be reliable, but its accuracy and completeness are not guaranteed. Centurion does not provide tax or legal advice; please consult a qualified tax or legal professional about your individual situation. Advisory services begin only after you sign a written advisory agreement.

Investment risk

All investing involves risk, including the possible loss of principal. Past performance does not guarantee future results. No investment strategy, including asset allocation, diversification, rebalancing, technical analysis or shorter-term trading, can assure a profit or protect against loss in a declining market. Shorter-term strategies may underperform a buy-and-hold approach, may result in more frequent trading and higher transaction costs, and may increase taxes.

Opinions and market commentary

Videos, articles and other commentary reflect the opinions of Dave Denniston as of the date they were recorded or published. They are subject to change without notice and may become outdated. Commentary may contain forward-looking statements, which involve uncertainty, and actual results may differ materially. References to economic or market conditions are not forecasts of any particular investment’s performance. Older articles and videos are kept for reference; tax laws, contribution limits and market conditions may have changed since they were published.

Fees

Portfolio management fees range from 1.50% to 0.50% of assets under management per year, depending on account size, and are billed monthly in arrears. Stand-alone financial planning is billed hourly at up to $350 per hour. Fees may be negotiable, and lower fees for comparable services may be available from other providers. Clients also pay costs that are separate from our fee, such as custodian and transaction charges and the internal expenses of mutual funds and ETFs. Advisory fees reduce the value of your account. Complete fee information is in Item 5 of our Form ADV Part 2A.

Where this website describes a service as “included,” such as coordination with your tax preparer or attorney, it is paid for through the advisory fee.

Conflicts of interest and outside business activities

Insurance. Dave Denniston is individually licensed as an insurance agent and may offer life insurance, disability income insurance and fixed annuities to clients, earning customary commissions or fees. This creates a financial incentive to recommend insurance and is a conflict of interest. Insurance is offered by Dave individually, not through Centurion. You are never required to buy insurance through him and may use any insurance agent you choose. On request, Dave will disclose the compensation he would receive.

Other businesses. Dave Denniston is also the managing principal of companies that buy and sell real property (Southern Family Lands, LLC; Family Freedom Lands, LLC; and Generation Family Properties, LLC). He also runs an events business (the Land UnConference) and makes hard money loans to other land investors. These businesses are separate from Centurion and are not offered through Centurion. Advisory clients, other than members of Dave’s family, are never solicited to buy property from these companies. These activities may create a conflict of interest regarding the time Dave devotes to Centurion. See Item 10 of our Form ADV Part 2A and Item 4 of Dave’s Form ADV Part 2B.

California residents (10 CCR § 260.235.2). When we provide financial planning, (a) a conflict exists between the interests of Centurion and your interests; (b) you are under no obligation to act on our financial planning recommendations; and (c) if you choose to act on any of our recommendations, you are under no obligation to carry out the transactions through Centurion or any of its associated persons.

Custodian. Client assets are held in the client’s name at an independent qualified custodian, typically Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. Centurion is not affiliated with Schwab. Schwab provides Centurion with services and products that may create an incentive to recommend it, as described in Items 12 and 14 of our Form ADV Part 2A.

Professional designations

The Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) charter is awarded by CFA Institute to candidates who pass three levels of examinations, meet professional work experience requirements and commit to the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. Charterholders must renew their professional conduct statement annually. Holding a designation does not guarantee investment results. CFA® and Chartered Financial Analyst® are registered trademarks owned by CFA Institute.

The Series 65 is the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination administered by FINRA on behalf of NASAA. Passing an exam does not imply a certain level of skill or training.
